The real place

This building has stood on this square since the fourteenth century.

You have walked past it. You may have been married in it. Almost nobody has seen what it can do after dark.

This is not a party placed inside a church.

The church itself becomes the experience.

The lit arch of the church porch at night, guests in dark coats walking through it into a corridor of deep red light.

The same room

ONE ROOM.THREE WORLDS.

Each one changes what the church can become.

Same viewpoint. Same stone. Change the light.

The architecture drawn in light. Piers and ribs traced in copper, beams cutting the haze, a crowd below in silhouette.

THE FIFTH

There is more than what you see.

The architecture drawn in light. Piers and ribs traced in copper, beams cutting the haze, a crowd below in silhouette.

THE FIFTH

There is morethan what you see.

You have stood in this room before. You have not seen it.

Wear

Dark. Considered.

Within the crowd in THE FIFTH, faces lit from the architecture rather than from a stage.
THE FIFTH at its peak: the whole structure alight in copper and oxblood.
The luminous peak of ICE: the building dissolved into almost white cyan light.

ICE

The buildingbecomes light.

It begins frozen. It does not stay that way.

Wear

White. All of it.

Arrival into a frozen room: silhouettes entering a cold blue haze.
The first thaw: cyan light building in the volume of the nave above a dense crowd.
Immersion. The room filled with light rather than lit by it.
The church almost entirely dark, its shape described only by hundreds of small points of light at head height.

ONCE

We becomethe light.

Five hundred people, once. Nothing about it happens twice.

Wear

Dark, sharp, made to move in.

A crowd in near darkness carrying points of light, faces caught between them.

Everything else, and the questions

The Catharinakerk seen from Simonsplein on an ordinary afternoon, brick and stone under a clouded sky.

The morning after, it is a church again.
